Motor-wise X5s start with a 3 litre 245bhp diesel with a top whack of 138mph, the 4 litre version pushes it to 206bhp. Go the whole hog for a petrol 4.8 litre twin turbo and you get 0-60 in 5.5 secs and 155mph – and mpg in the low twenties. Tax and insurance are predictably steep too. But to salve your green conscience (a little), the latest X5s have significantly lower CO2 emissions.
