More motorists may be inspired to take out Car Loans for the Volkswagen Golf after the model drove away with a recent award.

It was announced at the New York International Auto Show that the vehicle has been chosen as the 2009 World Car of the Year.

The model was voted for by a jury of 59 journalists from some 25 countries.

Overall, the Golf has sold in excess of 26 million units around the world and the sixth generation edition was launched at the Paris motor show last year.

The manufacturer claimed the latest incarnation of the vehicle is sportier, more fuel-efficient and quieter than its predecessors.

President and chief executive officer Stefan Jacoby said: "It is a tremendous honour for Volkswagen to have its global best-selling model, the Golf, named the 2009 World Car of the Year."

Earlier this month the vehicle was named What Diesel's number one medium-sized auto.
