Are VW About to buy Proton?

26 July 2012

According to just-auto.com, the conglomerate that is VW is about to purchase Proton. If true, it’s a move that is certain to make people wonder what Lotus’ future looks like, as the Norwich-based company is owned by Proton. According to the reports, VW would be interested in the production plants Proton currently owns in Asia, as VW has big ambitions of selling up to 10 million cars a year by 2018, so their Asian facilities would come in handy.

It sounds like a good move for VW, but we can’t help but worry for Lotus if the sale does go through. The sports-car company has been suffering of late so, with financial uncertainty in the air, will this be another wound for Lotus to heal?

We’ll keep our fingers crossed for now.
