I have a poor credit rating. Can i get bad credit car finance?

Hi, I have a poor credit rating due to past issues which have now been resolved. I am only looking for a smallish loan (I have seen one of your cars at £3995) and I would have a £500 deposit to put down. I have applied for finance, how long does it take to come through ? Also what sort of rates of APR do you have for poor credit? I am trying to decide whether to go ahead with loan if approved or simply save up the cash, sell my car and buy with cash after Xmas. Kind regards

Posted by Melanie on 06/09/2011 @ 13:47

Hi Melanie, thank you for the detailed question. In short i'm confident we can get you approved as we have many lenders that help people that have had credit problems in the past. In fact we're specialists in obtaining bad credit car loans through our panel of lenders. The fact that you have a £500 deposit is also a big help and getting you £3500 won't be an issue. What type of car is it that you're after? The rates on the finance will obviously be higher than what you'll see on the high streets as you will be seen as a higher risk unfortunately. For poor credit car finance you should expect to pay between 12% and 20% APR. When you say your past issues have now been resolved can you elaborate on that statement please? Kind Regards, Louis

Hi, what I mean by my situation was caused by a past issue - I worked for the National Trust about 5 years ago and was on a very low wage (I took a paycut of about £5k to go into the heritage industry), I then got into issues and missed payments on a previous loan with Cahoot and I did have defaults. Via a company called Byrom and Keeling a payment plan was arranged. However I have since gone back to working in the insurance industry and earn nearly £10k more than I did then, arranged to pay Cahoot and other smaller store cards back directly rather than through Byrom and Keeling (as they were taking 10%) and I now only have Cahoot (which is £2600 total to pay off including interest) and HSBC which is £2000 and a New look store card which has about £150 owed. I do not have a credit card or any other finance or HP owing.

Hi Lee, there is a possibility of obtaining bad credit car finance for you but the only way to find out is to apply so that we can asses your credit profile. To strengthen the car finance application do you have anyone who can act as a guarantor or joint hirer who has a good credit history? Kind Regards, Edwin

Hi Kimberley, if you don't have any credit history it may be best to apply with a guarantor (such as your mum or dad - have you asked them to help?). The thing is car finance lenders like to see some credit history on your profile and they like to be able to trace you so that's why it's so important to be on the electoral roll. Are you on the electoral roll? If you don't know ask your parents if you still live at home. If you don't have any credit at all it doesn't mean you have bad credit or a poor credit rating it just means you need to get your foot on the ladder and start getting a little bit of credit and build your profile up that way. I hope this helps and like i said make an application with a guarantor and hopefully we'll be able to get you into a car. Kind Regards, Edwin

Hi Lee, a deposit would certainly help as we have a number of bad credit car finance lenders who need to see commitment from customers in the form of a deposit. I can't give you a definite answer as to whether we can get you accepted or not until we see your credit profile so please make a car finance application with us asap. Kind Regards, Edwin

Hi i am only 21 years old and want a car on finance. I applied for car credit and was declined and as my address is blacklisted through my parents history i cannot get anyone to be a guarantor. I checked my credit score and its only one star. I have a large overdraft of £2000 but do not owe any money to anyone apart from that overdraft. I also have one default on my credit report due to an overdraft with another bank which was only £100 and i didnt know i was over it for months. I work part time and earn around £650 a month plus £400 a month from my university. I want to borrow £6000 is there a chance i could get it?

Hi there, I wonder if you can help. I have a bad credit history due to being made redundant and falling into debt as a result, and also because I am a private tenant who, through no fault of my own, has had to move house a lot in the last few years. I am trying to arrange car credit as I am now working full time and in a stable job with a good income, but my car is on its way out. I wondered if there is any way I could get assistance with car finance if I was able to provide a guarantor? I hope you can help. Kind regards, Charlotte

Are you on the electoral roll at your current address? If so, please place that address on the main application and also list all of your other addresses on the application form. We also help people with a blemished past so don't worry - you're not the only one in your situation. Hi Tracey, we'll certainly try and help you out. When you say your credit is bad - how bad is it? We do have access to lenders that help people with adverse credit history but they can't help everyone. The good thing is that it sounds like you're in work and have a steady income which is great. Are you in an IVA or bankrupcy? If you have CCJ's how much are they for?

Hi John, your monthly payments would all depend upon how long you want the £2500 over? 36 or 48 months maximum id suggest. £2500 over 36 months with fair credit works out at £89 per month - with poor credit it works out at £104 per month.

Hi Arran, your credit score doesn't seem to bad but if we get you approved you'll be looking to pay aroud 19.9% APR which isn't the best on the market but by no means is it the worst. As your defaults are small i think we have a good chance of getting you accepted for poor credit car finance as long as you have a full uk drivers licence, a UK bank account, proof of address and a proof of income (payslip). Thanks Edwin

As both of us had health problems this lead to me falling behind on a few bills like council tax as I was out of work etc. I'm now working part time for an insurance company earning a good wage and also pay my rent and other bills on time. I have never once been late to pay it. I'm just about to sit my test and I'm needing a reliable car as It would be used to take my son to nursery. Would I be able to get finance do you think?

Hi Gillian, we'd love to help you and your son out. All i'd advise though is to pass your driving test before applying for car finance as most lenders will need to see proof of your driving licence before funding the deal. If all your current credit accounts are up to date then there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to get you approved. Do you have a deposit or part exchange to place into the deal as this would also improve your chances of getting accepted? Lastly, are you on the electoral roll at your current address and is this where all your current credit is registered? Things like rent, council tax and insurance don't appear on your credit profile so do you have any loans, credit cards, store cards or contract mobile phones in your name? Kind regards, Edwin

Hi Edwin, I just came across this forum. I have got a score of 672 on experian - I joined today. I've never missed a payment, I have 2 phone contracts and £91000 owing on my mortgage. On the report it says the negative factors are that I have got a few credit and bank accounts. My credit card has a limit of £1700 and another of £800 and I've never made a late payment ever! I've got a bank account with an overdraft of £2500 and I never missed my mortgage payment either. So my score came as poor on 672 but thats because I got a lot of credit out & I'm 25 !! I want to know if I will be accepted on car finance pcp for Audi RS3! I don't want to go and have any more credit searches done until I'm sure i'll get the credit. Now I have money for deposit and will put upto £5000 if I have to. What are my chances? My wages around £27k a year. Thanks Zeb

Hi there, I have a bad credit history score of about 550. I've seen a car I like and I was wondering if I can get car loan. I've got a credit card to rebuild my credit history and a mobile phone?

Hi there, I'm currently looking for a car on finance . I've got a bad credit rating (I think) as when I was younger I didn't realise the value of money. I've just finished paying for my last car on finance - 6 long years but worth it. I was wondering if I could get a bad credit finance and if it looked good on my application that I've had and paid for a car already on finance with no problems

Hi William, we should be able to help if you've now paid one car finance agreement in full. Will you be using your current car as a part exchange / deposit? If so, what is it worth? Please apply when you get 5 minutes and we'll aim to get you into a new car this week. Edwin

Hi there, I don't think i'll be part exchanging as my car is not working at the moment. I'll have about £500 for a deposit though. This really is my final option as I have been declined everywhere else

Hi, I have a fair rating (828) on Experian. This includes a credit card default (£8500) in 2008 paid off in April 2011, 7 late payments in the last year and total debt of around £13500. I'm looking at a car for around £8000 and I have a deposit of £2000. Will I be able to get credit and at what sort of rate? Thanks, David

Hi David, as you have a £2000 deposit i'm sure we can get the £6000 that you require. As you have a poor recent credit history i'd expect the rate you receive to be between 14% and 18%. Kind Regards, Edwin

Hi,I have a poor credit rating because I defaulted on a credit card when I lost my job 8 years ago. I am working full time again and want to borrow £3000 to buy a car. My girlfriend has good credit score but got turned down for a loan. Is this because she only works part time or because I live at the same address? Is there anywhere will lend without paying high interest?

Hi Anon, Here at CF247 we do work with most of the lenders currently on the market and do manage to secure the majority of our customers an approval including those who have experienced credit issues. The main thing our lenders will look for is that you are trying to improve your credit score. It is possible that your girlfriend was refused credit due to being part time as only a small number of lenders will consider such customers. May I advise that you put an application through in both your names. We can then combine your girlfriends good credit and your full time employment. Our underwriters can then assess what the best option for you would be. With regards to interest rates it is hard to say without seeing an application and it will depend upon which finance company we can get you approved with. However usually with our sub-prime customers such as yourself you would be looking at paying anything from 10-30% flat rate. The APR will depend on the length of the agreement. I hope this helps. Edwin

Hi Kel. The good news is we should be able to help you. We would need to have a closer look at an application so we can have a closer look at your credit and assess which would be the best lender for you. The most important thing is that you are showing intent to improve your credit profile by reducing your ccjs/ defaults. It will help if you are registered on the electoral roll at your current address. Thanks, Edwin

I applied for a finance deal for a car in October but was refused on the grounds that my credit rating was bad. I have a full time permanent contract as a teacher so can easily afford to pay a finance deal each month. But, mess ups with my phone bill in the past have seriously affected my credit score which means I was even refused for a credit card. Are there any companies that would accept me for a finance deal if my parents guarantored it? I want the reliability of a new car and also the chance to improve my credit rating by proving I can pay on time each month!

Hello, I have just done a credit report with Experian and have a very poor rating of just 531.I know it's doubtful but do you think there is any chance of getting finance on a car of £5360 ? I have had decline from CAR LOANS 4U who have tried with no joy. Do you use the same companies as them or do you have a selection of other lenders ? My bad history is from a while ago and also my period of searching for loans that obviously act against you . Many thanks Alex

Hi Alex, we do work with some of the same lenders but do work with others. I would advise that you make an application so we can try our best to place you with the most appropriate lender. We will run an initial credit search on you to begin with and our underwriters will only try to get you approved with the lenders we believe we accept your application thus avoiding adding a number of unecessary searches on your profile. May I advise that you put through a joint application as this may strenghten your chances of an approval.I hope this helps, Edwin

Hi, I am looking to get finance for a car, the loan amount is £4500, I have a deposit of £500 and a car for part ex with a value of about £500. I have checked my credit score through experian which comes back as poor due to past circumstances and I haven't been in my present part time job very long. Having looked at mine and my partners finances at present we can afford up £200 a month for finance payments and my be able to get a friend to be a guarantor for the loan, so my question is what would be the chance of getting approval on £4500 loan in my present situation, also note I have as yet applied for any finance due to not wanting more marks on my credit score. Thank you for your time. John

Hi John, your budget of £200 per month is a decent one and as you have a £1000 combined deposit i'm very confident we could help get you approved (depending upon how bad your credit actually is). You certainly tick the boxes and we do specialise in helping individuals with a poor credit history. As long as you can prove your income and are on the voters roll at your current address we should be in business. Have a good weekend and please make an application when you're ready.
