Can I Get Car Finance if I Work Part Time?

Hi,

I'm currently working 15 hours a week, receive additional benefits, such as child tax credits, and in total I receive around £1750 a month. I'm currently waiting for my electoral role application to be updated, and I'm 20 points away from a "fair" score. I hope once this has updated I will be "fair". I also have a £1k deposit and am looking to borrow £6k, what are my chances?

Hi Jamie, thank you for your question,

Your credit isn't too bad, and you have a good regular income and decent deposit. We do have lenders who can help people receiving benefits, so we can try our best to help you!

Please make an application when you're ready and if approved we provide a no obligation quote and you can buy a car from any dealer. Kind Regards, Rachel

Rates from 7.9%: the exact rate you will be offered will be based on your circumstances, subject to status.

Representative example: borrowing £6,500 over 5 years with a representative APR of 9.9%, an annual interest rate of 9.9% (Fixed) and a deposit of £0.00, the amount payable would be £136.44 per month, with a total cost of credit of £1,686.40 and a total amount payable of £8,186.40.

We look to find the best rate from our panel of lenders and will offer you the best deal that you’re eligible for. We don’t charge a fee for our service, but we do earn a commission. This does not influence the interest rate you’re offered in any way.

I am a full time carer for my mentally and physically disabled wife. I am in receipt of all income as she is unable, mentally, to manage any money. We currently have a car through Motability but are looking to send this back due to her disability causing

Hi Chris, thank you for your detailed question. As you are a carer we do class this differently to people who are unemployed. When completing our finance application you do have the option to select "carer" as a profession. You have a good annual income and a decent monthly disposable budget so i’m reasonably confident we can get you accepted for the £4000 you need. In terms of what rate you receive this will be dictated by the lender we can get you approved with. To get an approximate idea though please use our car finance calculator. The lenders we use do have specific vehicle criteria which will be explained once we have an approval in place. The better credit history you have the more flexibility there is. Please make an application and if approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Rachel

Yes! The good news is that our lenders can help people with a disability get car finance. This also includes people who are claiming Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments.

However, we can’t say that we’d definitely be able to help as everyone’s circumstances are different and we’d need to look at your individual details to see if we can match you to one of our lenders. Yes, the good news is that we do work with lenders that are able to offer student car finance. However, if you’re under 21 and have not had a job or applied for finance before, you might find your options restricted by your credit history. Some of the lenders on our panel ask for you to have a part-time job or may require a guarantor. Get a quote to find out more – with no impact on your credit score. Rates from 6.9% APR. Hi, I am looking into buying a Citroen C2 for around £3,500. I am a student getting around £7k a year from student finance and £5k from a part time job. My credit rating is listed as 'poor' because I haven't had any credit before and i've been turned down

Hi Georgia, as you have no credit i'd advise you to add one of your parents to the application to give yourself a better chance of being approved. Who has the better credit history - your Mum or Dad? It won't matter that your Mum has a provisional if she's acting as a guarantor. I take it you have a full UK licence? When you apply place your part time job in the employment section and after the application is complete come back to me with the unique reference number so that i can guide you through the process. Kind Regards, Rachel

Hi Joanna, As you’re self employed and have bad credit we’d need to see 3 months bank statements proving your income. If this isn’t possible today then wait 3 months and make sure all your income goes through your bank from now until you apply. Regards, Rachel
