Equifax vs Experian

I have noticed a great discrepancy between the two companies. Experian has my bank details, past credit and my electoral roll details but, despite sending letters and a copy of my Experian statutory report, Equifax have only my Virgin Media account on my profile. Which do you use as it appears that Experian is more thorough?

In the UK, there are three main credit reference agencies – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Each of these agencies has a different scoring system and uses different information to determine your credit score. It’s not unusual for your score to be different with each of these agencies.

At CarFinance 247, we work with a panel of lenders who use different credit reference agencies to determine whether they can approve you in principle. As you can’t be certain which of the three agencies your lender uses, it’s good practice to check your credit score at all three. This can be done for free by heading to Credit Karma (which uses TransUnion data), ClearScore (which uses Equifax) or Credit Club from MoneySavingExpert (using Experian data).

Credit scores related questions

Hi, I have an Experian credit score of 868 and need about £9000 to buy a replacement car. I'm on about £1300 per month, live with my parents and am on the electoral role.

I have one defaulted account for about £400 from 3 years ago, I don't

Hi Jack, thank you for your question.

As you only have a few blips on your credit profile and an old default for a small amount i doubt this will prevent us from securing you car finance.

The only stumbling block may be the amount you need. On £1300 monthly income we may only be able to get you circa £7000 but this all depends upon which lender we can get you accepted with.

Please make an application and once approved you can choose a car from any dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Rachel

Hi Dave, thank you for your detailed question. Your credit score does seem good but as you have no active credit (and past bad credit) we may struggle. I'm confident we can get an approval but i can't guarantee anything at this stage. Are you on the electoral roll? If so, this further increases our chances. The fact that you have a part ex and cash deposit certainly increases your chances of getting the amount you need. It's your decision Dave but i am quietly confident. That's all i can say now. Rachel

I have a credit rating of 795 on Experian, have a default on a loan from nearly 6 year ago, not currently on the electoral roll because moved round quite a bit in the last year. Was looking to borrow £3500 and have a £500 deposit. Earn £400 a week after t

Hi Andrew, your credit score seems pretty fair if I am honest and i'm confident that we can get you an approval. Being on the electoral roll doesn't necessarily guarantee you finance but it can go a long way in helping gain an approval. You may want to get yourself registered on it as it makes you traceable to the lender. The fact that you are employed and have a deposit will definitely go in your favour. It is wirth making an application so we can see how we can help! cheers, Rachel :)

Hi Spencer, as you have such a large deposit i'm sure we'll be able to get you approved once you're on the electoral roll. You may need to provide proof of income (payslips - bank statements) so as long as you can do that we should be fine. Kind Regards, Rachel

I have a credit score of 770 on experian. Will this get me a good rate on a car loan? I am afraid of applying for a loan and risk being rejected and that affecting my credit score. I want to borrow £6500 over 60 months. I have not applied for a loan anywh

Hi Rhidian, with a credit score of 770 we may be able to get you approved for the £6500 that you need. We work with many lenders so you need not apply anywhere else as too many footprints on your credit profile has a negative effect. The rate you can expect will be determined by your personal circumstances and the lender we can get you accepted with. Please make an application when you're ready and if approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Rachel

Hi Wayne, thank you for your question. Your credit score isn't so bad, and at 716 would be considered fair. We work with a number of lenders that are able to help customers with a fair credit score, so you should be okay on that front. You also have a regular income and a deposit which will help us find you an approval. Please make an application when you're ready and if approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Rachel

Hi Rachel. Credit agencies work differently and have different scoring systems. For example experian and call credit score out of 1000 and equifax out of 500. Thus your credit scores are quite high and I am confident we will be able to help. I would definitely advise that you put an application through so we can see how we can help. Thanks Rachel
