What proof of ID is required for car finance?

Hello Rachel, i'm thinking of applying for car finance but i need to know what's involved first! Do I have to send copies of everything for example: driving licence, bills, payslips etc? Please let me know.

Carol

Answer

Hi Carol, If you have a good credit history to get a deal funded all we'll need is a verified copy of your driving licence.

However, if you get approved with one of our non status lenders they will require more proofs / information. This will include, Driving Licence, Payslips, Proof of ID (passport), Proof of Signature (back of debit card) and possibly Bank Statements.

We'll request everything that is required after you have been approved. Please make an application when you're ready and once accepted we provide a no obligation quote and you can buy a car from any dealer. Kind Regards, Rachel

I only have payslips or invoce showing amounts i get paid. I dont have bank statements. Can you help?

Answer

Hi Dom, if you have payslips confirming your monthly wage then that will suffice for proof of income (as long as you're not self employed). Do you have a UK driving licence, proof of address and a proof of signature available also? Thanks, Rachel

Hi Rachel, do the lenders you deal with accept a Birth Certificate as proof of Identification?

Answer

Hi Tyron, yes our lenders will accept a birth certificate as proof of identification but they may also ask for photographic proof of ID too. This can be in the form of a driving licence or passport. Rachel

I have have a 902 credit score and have just been passed for finance. My licence is being renewed currently - Will my passport, accounts and utility bill be ok?

Answer

Hi Sean, yes, that should be fine depending upon which lender you have been approved with. If you don't have your licence to hand we can just carry out a DVLA check who will confirm whether you have a licence or not :-)

Hi, I was just wondering if you have to have a utility bill as a proof of address? I currently live at my sisters house and all utility bills are in her name. I only have bank statements etc in my name for where I'm living.

Answer

Hi Emma, don't worry as a bank statement can act as a proof of address so no utility bill is required :-)

My partners photo part of his driving licence has expired, and only has an old passport. Could we still get finance with an old passport

Answer

Hi Lisa, i wouldn't worry too much about the passport but the driving licence will need updating as we would need a copy of a current valid licence for the deal to progress.

I have a good credit record (score around 900, depending on which agency) and want to get a personal lease - but am just moving from self employed to employed. My employment contract starts on 10 December. Will you need proof of income, or will my credit score and employment contract be enough?

Answer

Hi Nicole, as you have a good credit score we may not have to prove your income when we get you approved. Do you have any deposit and how much is the car you're thinking of financing? Have you applied at the dealer yet where the car is coming from? Regards, Rachel

My partner wants to take out finance on a car for me as i have very bad credit but he has excellent credit but doesnt have a licence. Is this a problem?

Answer

Hi Cheryl. We do have a few lenders who will finance customers who do not have a licence however he would need to have very good credit and some other form of ID such as a valid passport. It would also help if he was registered on the electoral roll at his current address.

However, may I advise that if you have a full licence you put through a joint application with both of your details. We deal with many lenders who will finance customers with previous credit issues so there is a chance we could gain an approval with yourself on the application. Our underwriters will assess both yours and your husbands credit profiles to advise on the best option for you. Thanks Rachel

Hi, i've been accepted from a finance lender and they have asked for proof of address, photo id and payslips. The address I stay at I have no bills or letters to. Will I be ok giving them photo id and just payslips? Thanks

Answer

Hi Adam, if your driving licence is in your current address this will suffice as proof of ID and proof of address. Kind Regards, Rachel

Hello, my credit is poor but i work full time. I don't have a utility bill as i live between my partners and my sons. What else can i use as proof of ID / address?

Answer

Hi Sandra, thank you for your question.

We can use a bank statement or driving licence as proof of address so don't worry if you don't have a utility bill. We also have lenders that help people with poor credit.

Please make an application when you're ready to do so. Rachel

Hello, I am self employed with a good/average credit rating. I am looking to PCP (if possible) a Range Rover with approx. £5000 deposit.

As I am newly self employed I don't have accounts as such what documentation would I need to produce?

Answer

Hi Krystina, thank you for your question.

As you're self employed we'd need to see 3 months bank statements as proof of income. The large deposit will certainly help and if approved we'd be able to get you a competitive quote for a PCP deal on a Range Rover.

Please make an application and once approved we provide a no obligation quote and you can buy a car from any dealer in the UK. Kind Regards, Rachel

Hello, I don't currently have access to my bank statements due to online banking and I can only get a spreadsheet showing transactions, but I can get payslips and all other forms of id.

My credit rating is around 450, do you think you could help? I am looking at a £25000 car and have a deposit of £13000. Thanks

Answer

Hi Jason, thank you for your question.

As you get payslips these will count as proof of income so bank statements may not be required. Even if they are a stamped & signed copy from your local branch would be fine.

You also have a large deposit and the good news is that we have lenders who help people with credit issues. Please make an application and once approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Rachel

Hello, I'm interested in getting finance and I have an average credit score.

I have my licence and payslips but, I haven't my passport at the moment (lost). Will that be an issue?

Answer

Hi James, thank you for your question.

The good news is that we have lenders on our panel that help people with fair credit. Not having a passport won't be a major issue (although we do have one lenders that requires one) and as you have a full UK licence and proof of income we should be fine.

Please make an application and once approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Rachel

I've currently moved house and shredded bills from previous address - will a lender accept pay slip, bank statement stamped by the bank and dated, car insurance docs or my P60. I have given both addresses and finance was accepted, I just need to proof of address

Answer

Hi Chris, thank you for your question.

I would advise you contact your finance provider directly, as the proof accepted varies depending on the lender.

Kind Regards, Rachel.

Hi,

I want to apply for car finance on a PCP contract. I have a good credit rating, I'm on the electoral roll, and I have all documents, (proof of ID address, and bank statements showing regular monthly income) however I don't have any official payslips does this matter? Also if I'm renting and have only lived there for 7 months, but lived with parents at a previous address for over ten years, would this go against me getting approved?

Answer

Hi Shelley,

The fact that you have a steady regular income is great and we can try our best to help you. Some of our lenders will accept a bank statement as proof of income - so the fact that you do not have official payslips should not be an issue.

Please make an application when you're ready and if approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Rachel
