Car loans customers having mid-life crisis drive Porsches, research shows

People having a mid-life crisis are likely to be driving Porsches, a study by Tescocompare.com has revealed.

People having a mid-life crisis are likely to be driving Porsches, a study by Tescocompare.com has revealed.

Its research details the average age of owners of 800 car models from 90 manufacturers and was based on more than half a million car insurance quotes.

The average Porsche owner is 39, according to the study, with the Cayenne, Boxster and 911 the most typical mid-life crisis models.

Fiats, Peugeots and Minis have average driver ages of 31, 32 and 33 respectively.

Paul Baxter of Tescocompare.com said: "This research has thrown up some surprising results - with cars we think are normally owned by the young having a surprisingly high typical age and vice versa.

"It seems the image of the driver created by car manufacturing advertising campaigns is not always the reality."

He said those turning 40 and taking out car loans to buy a Porsche don't have to pay as much for car insurance as other Porsche drivers.

Every driver, regardless of age or the vehicle they drive, should shop around to get the cheapest and most appropriate car insurance policy, he added.

It was reported this week that the Association of British Insurers has introduced a new system for placing cars into car insurance groups.

There are now 50 groups which take into account the size and weight of the vehicle, repair costs and top speed.
