Ford's Mondeo estate has been named the overall winner of the second annual Towcar awards.
The accolade was received from experts at What Car?, Practical Caravan and the Camping and Caravanning Club.
Some 53 vehicles were tested for towing ability, performance when not towing, practicality, value for money and safety.
The cars were judged in five categories by kerb weight, allowing car finance customers to choose the best match for their caravan or trailer.
Ford's Focus 2.0 hatchback won the under 1425 kg category, while the Mondeo estate 2.0 won the 1575-1724 kg category and the overall award.
The C-MAX was also highly recommended as the budget choice in its category.
What Car? Editor Steve Fowler described the Mondeo as "comfortable, spacious, good to drive and affordable".
"The Mondeo is not just a great towcar; it is also a great car when there isn't a caravan or trailer hitched to the back."
Ford employs 14,200 people at ten locations around the UK.
In 2004 its Focus was the country's favourite car for the sixth successive year.
