People looking for car finance in the UK could be behind an increase in vehicle production this year.
According to statistics from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), although the number of cars made in June fell by 4.4 per cent, there has been a rise of 7.9 per cent this year compared to 2007.
The number of vehicles exported from Britain went down also, by 7.2 per cent, with 101,016 cars leaving the country.
Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, commented on a recent discussion with prime minister Gordon Brown on the models produced in the UK.
"He took great interest and commented that he is looking to provide incentives for the take-up of electric and greener vehicles," said the official.
The meeting took place at the British International Motor Show, which kicked off at ExCeL London earlier this week and will run until August 3rd.
