The Jeep Cherokee has been given a facelift for 2008, the company has announced.

According to Nigel Land, marketing director of Chrysler UK, owners of the current model will not even recognise the new car's interior, stating that the centre console has a "luxurious and refined feel".

One new feature is the optional Sky Slider - a canvas roof which fully opens, as well as a new full-time four-wheel-drive system.

Car credit customers will be able to purchase the vehicle from this month, with diesel engine and right-hand drive options available.

Mr Land said: "The leather treatments to seats, handbrake and gear shifter, grab handles, door panels and centre console create a luxurious and refined feel."

The original Jeep Cherokee was produced from 1974 to 1983 and was a full-size SUV available in two and four-door variations.

The model was mainly developed in Toledo, Ohio.
