Environmentally-aware motorists who are looking for an eco-friendly SUV may be tempted to take out a car loan after hearing about Land Rover's latest offering.
According to the manufacturer, the Freelander 2 TD4_e is its most fuel-efficient vehicle to date.
Featuring a stop/start system, the new model's CO2 emissions are eight per cent lower than those of the previous manual diesel version.
It also achieves fuel savings of almost 20 per cent in heavy urban traffic.
Commenting on the new motor, Phil Popham, the manufacturer's managing director, said: "The stop/start Freelander 2 is the first production vehicle to benefit from the massive £700 million investment in sustainable technologies by Jaguar and Land Rover."
He added, from the middle of next year, the stop/start feature will be included on all Freelander 2 TD4 manual models, with no increase in list prices.
Last month, the Land Rover Discovery 3 was voted best used 4x4 by What Car? magazine.
