Car loans customers who bought a Ford Fiesta last month were not alone, new statistics have suggested.
Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders showed the model was the UK's top-selling vehicle in January for the third month in a row.
According to Ford, despite the poor economic conditions, Fiesta registrations were up by 28.3 per cent compared with the same month in 2008.
The fact the model scooped the title of What Car? Car of the Year will only have served to make the beginning of 2009 even sweeter for the company.
On top of this, the manufacturer pointed out its Ka, Focus and Galaxy vehicles were also top sellers in their classes during January.
Managing director Nigel Sharp said: "New Ford Ka arrived last month, joining Fiesta to offer the combination of style, value and economy which private buyers are looking for more than ever."
January also saw the Fiesta ECOnetic arrive in showrooms across the country - a model Cleangreencars.co.uk described as the greenest family vehicle in the UK.
