Mazda hits car production milestone with MX-5

Longevity in the car business is something that is rare – especially for one model. But the Mazda MX-5 has proved that by producing a small, agile and cheap sports car you can sell in the thousands.

Longevity in the car business is something that is rare – especially for one model. But the Mazda MX-5 has proved that by producing a small, agile and cheap sports car you can sell in the thousands. The company is currently celebrating the 900,000th MX-5 to be produced – impressive, isn’t it?

After 21 years and ten months, the 900,000th MX-5 rolled off the line to record setting jubilation. Managing director, Jeremy Thomson said: "Over 20 years, the MX-5 has maintained its position as an affordable, lightweight sports car that is responsive and rewarding to drive, while also proving itself to be recession proof."

You can’t argue with the figures, the MX-5 is still a sales phenomenon – and we can’t see it stopping any time.
