Any unlawful car finance drivers who partake in the usage of drugs whilst driving are to be clamped down on by the government. Over a million motorists have admitted that they have used drugs and been high while driving because they know they will get away with it. The case study taken out by insurer Direct Line showed that two thirds of drug drivers took to the wheel after taking class-A drugs like cocaine and ecstasy.

Neil Greig who works for the Institute for Advanced Motorists said: "It is clear that because many drug users don't make a connection between their drug use and being a danger on the road many are still willing to risk it," he said.

"Drug users often see their cars as a key part of their ability to source drugs and of course some actually think it makes them a better driver. Until we have a simple and reliable roadside testing kit the use of intelligence plus high profile enforcement is the best way to keep a lid on the problem."
