Whitmarsh: BBC should not quit F1

McLaren team principle and all-round good guy, Martin Whitmarsh, has come out and spoken about the BBC’s rumoured plans to axe F1 in 2013 from its broadcast.

McLaren team principle and all-round good guy, Martin Whitmarsh, has come out and spoken about the BBC’s rumoured plans to axe F1 in 2013 from its broadcast. The BBC are apparently in desperate need of some cash, and with F1 taking up a lot of the budget, it would seem an obvious route to go down. But, there is a problem, and that lies with viewing figures. BBC’s F1 coverage appeals to millions of fans and the broadcaster struggles to achieve higher figures with any of its other shows.

Whitmarsh told car finance drivers that it would be ‘sad’ and ‘unwise’ if the BBC axed the show. “I think it would be very sad, and most unwise, if the BBC were to disappoint so many millions of British sports fans by axing it (F1), and that's why I don't believe for a moment that they'd seriously consider doing such a thing."
