IAM says car finance learners need £12k to drive

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has come forward and given its opinion on the price of learning to drive for car finance learners. The institute says that it costs £12,000 for a teenage learner to place a car on their parent’s drive – and that’s before they’ve even turned the key!

The cost has been worked out by looking at the average cost of lessons, tests, insurance, MOTs, tax and, obviously, the car itself.

While this is a staggering figure, it makes it even more sobering when you consider the average salary for a 17-year-old is just £9,300. It makes you wonder just how these kids are going to be able to afford a house in the future, never mind a car!
