Car finance ‘fat cat’ lane for motorways

The government has announced new plans for a nationwide network of toll lanes on motorways, which will apparently boost the economy and raise funds. The news will no doubt ruffle some feathers as the lanes are likely to keep drivers – who are struggling financially – away from the express lanes and allow the rich and wealthy to power their way through the traffic.

Speaking to Autoblog, The RAC's Adrian Tink said: "the concept of toll lanes, or 'Lexus lanes', is something that is bound to annoy many motorists."

"It will basically create a two-tier road network," he said, "where those that can afford it will be able to get around quicker than everyone else. Drivers already pay in excess of £30 billion through fuel duty and vehicle excise duty - to expect them to pay more just to get to their destination in a reasonable time will be a charge too far."

It’s a car finance dilemma, as the idea does sound good, but not if it will keep most drivers at bay.
