Half Of Britain’s Speed Cameras Are Switched Off

A report in The Sun claims that almost half of Britain’s speed cameras were turned off last year and that hundreds of them won’t ever be switched back on. According to the report, Britain has 3,189 Gatso cameras and, during 2011, 1,522 were not snapping away at speedy motorists.

A report in The Sun claims that almost half of Britain’s speed cameras were turned off last year and that hundreds of them won’t ever be switched back on. According to the report, Britain has 3,189 Gatso cameras and, during 2011, 1,522 were not snapping away at speedy motorists.
 
The reason as to why some aren’t in action is due to the Government’s spending cuts – which is good news for motorists – but it does beg the question: how long until all of them are gone?
 
Hardly any of we car finance-loving Brits like the Gatso cameras, so perhaps this is a step in the right direction for our local councils. Let’s hope they don’t switch them back on!
