Oil Companies Need to Pass The Savings

The Sunday Times has reported that oil giants will be targeted by the government if they do not pass savings on to the motorist at the pumps. The new scheme will name and shame the companies which are keeping all the profits while motorists suffer on a weekly basis at fuel stations across the country.

RMI chairman Brian Madderson remains unimpressed and said: “It is appalling that the Government has failed to engage with the fuel retailing industry before issuing misleading information for short term political expediency. They clearly irritated by continuing and justified media and public criticism of their unflinching stance on the planned fuel duty increase this summer.”
 
At time of press, we’re experiencing some of the lowest prices for a few months – albeit, they’re still very expensive – but will the trend continue? Can we really ever expect to see petrol prices go as low as £1 per litre? 
 
One can dream, right?
