Motorists are being urged to take a few sensible precautions when heading out to buy a used car, reports the Sunday Times.
Jason Dawe, a motoring writer for the newspaper, is going to host a new TV show looking specifically at the best way to get a great deal when buying a used car.
The Used Car Roadshow starts on ITV4 this Wednesday, and each week the experts will held ordinary drivers afford the car of their dreams.
"What we want to do with this show is offer people useful, down-to-earth advice on the sort of cars that, let's face it, most of us are going to be buying," Mr Dawe told the Sunday Times.
"It's a bit like a property show, but rather than finding people their perfect home we're helping them to track down the right car to put on the driveway," he added.
The advice he lays out for drivers includes setting an affordable budget, making sure the car will fit in your garage, taking a thorough test drive, and checking the car's tax, registration and MoT papers are all in order.
Buying a used car is a great way of cutting car finance costs, particularly when coupled with a car loan or car credit deal.
