The new Ford Mondeo has been awarded a five star occupant protection NCAP rating, which could be of interest to car finance customers looking for a safe family car.

According to Reuters both the new Mondeo and Volkswagen's new compact SUV, the Tiguan, were given the award as well as a four star rating for child protection.

The news agency also reports that Hyundai was awarded the slightly lower rating of four stars for occupant protection and three stars for child protection on its new family supermini - the i30.

It is also reported that the i30 was given a two star NCAP rating for pedestrian protection.

Earlier this week the news agency reported that Ford car manufacturer Ford's head of global product development and chief technical officer, Richard Parry-Jones, had called for more regulation and price incentives for the use of biofuels.

"We advocate the use of responsible biofuels, and we're developing a scheme for accredited fuels - like organic food," he said.
