Car loans customers urged to remember headlights

The majority of drivers in the UK could be putting themselves at risk by failing to use their headlights properly, according to a new study.

The majority of drivers in the UK could be putting themselves at risk by failing to use their headlights properly, according to a new study.

According to Car Pages, around 54 per cent of respondents, including those who may have just purchased a new vehicle with approved car finance, admitted to unknowingly having driven at night without headlights.

The figures, put together by esure, also revealed that around 2.5 million drivers have never used their fog lights and around four million were unaware that their car had sidelights.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, said that it was important for drivers to be aware of how to use their lights properly - in particular over the coming winter months.

"Drivers must be extra vigilant during the winter and ensuring you are driving with the correct lights on is an important issue when it comes to driving safely," he said.

Last month a study by Norwich Union Risk Services revealed that one in nine cars on the road were in danger of impairing the visibility of oncoming drivers.
