Citroen has announced that it is confident that it will soon be able to offer new cars to consumers that will have a lower average of CO2 emissions.
According to Reuters, the French manufacturer will put in to place initiatives to meet tougher European Union regulations and offer a greener option for drivers - including those who may have new car finance.
It is reported that the company is to further invest in its Stop & Start technology, which reduces engine use by cutting power when the car comes to a halt and restartinfg automatically on depression of the accelerator pedal.
Commenting on the announcement, Citroen's managing director Gilles Michel said that half of the company's cars sold last year had CO2 emissions levels of under 140 g/km and that it was keen to build upon this.
"It is not going to be easy, but Citroen is already a leader in terms of emissions and we intend to stay a leader," he said.
Citroen's Stop & Start system is currently only available on the manufacturer's C3 model, which also comes with the SensoDrive gearbox.
