Do you have a question about Carfinance247 or its services? If so, please complete the form below for a response within 1 working hours. I have over 7 years experience working for Carfinance247 and have the responsibility to answer all questions asked.

Do I have to have a drivers licence to get car finance?

Can I get car credit if I have no drivers licence? The car is for my family and i'm thinking of letting my husband drive as he has a licence.

Posted by Natasha Warren on

Answer.

Hi Natasha, thank you for your question.

We do have a few lenders on our panel that allow people without a driving licence to get a car loan but you'll need a good credit record. As your husband has a licence could he not apply for the finance as he'd be the one driving the car? You could also make a joint application for car credit which would potentially strengthen the application as both sets of income could be taken into consideration.

Just so you know we do also help people with good and bad credit histories. Please make an application when you have considered your options and if approved we provide a no obligation quote and you can buy a car from any dealer. Kind Regards, Edwin

Question.

Im wondering about the same thing really. My credit is appaling, but my mothers is not too bad. She doesn't have a license though so is it feasible for her to apply for credit for me to have the car or for her to be the main applicant and myself a joint.

Posted by Dan G on

Answer.

Hi Dan, your mother could act as a guarantor so, please get her permission first and then make a joint application for car finance on our website. It doesn't matter if your mum hasn't got a licence as the car is for you. Kind Regards, Edwin

Question.

Hi, I was thinking the same kind of thing too, My girlfriend can't get finance because she doesn't work so I wanted to get the car on finance for her but I do not have a licence would I still be able to get it ?

Posted by Bob on

Answer.

Hi Bob, as the car is for your girlfriend you'd have to make a joint application for car finance. This would strengthen your chances of gaining an approval. Please make an application when you're ready and if approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Edwin

Question.

i have a simular question, my husbands licence was revoked due to ill health so hasnt got a licence at the moment but i have but i have no income so cant get finance can my husband get it in his name?

Posted by Jenny on

Question.

is there anyway i could get car finance without a licence. i do work but work self employed so hard to prove my income but can i use my invoices

Posted by Robert on

Answer.

Hi Jenny, the best solution is to make a joint application for car finance with your husband. We do have loan options available to us where our lenders take benefit income into consideration. Also, if you add your husband to the application he can act as a co-hirer which would improve our chances of getting an approval.

Please make an application when you're ready and if approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Edwin

Hi Robert, we do have a few personal loan options on our panel so we could potentially still help. Kind Regards, Edwin

my husband is in full time employment but he works overseas he has been cleared for finance but as he has no licence it looks like its not going to go through, is there anyway of having my name added to the finance or would it need to be a whole new application?

Answer.

Hi Jenny, please call a sales advisor on 0800 019 7180 to explain the situation. You can make a joint application on the website if you prefer. Kind Regards, Edwin

Question.

i have an appalling credit history but my daughter who is full time employed with a credit rating over 806 but has a provisional licence aged 18 can she get a car for me?

Posted by Asaf Ahmed on

Answer.

Hi Asaf, we could get your daughter approved but as she only has a provisional licence she'd only get approved at our one and only sub-prime lender who helps people with provisional licences. My advice would be for you to apply yourself and see if we could get you accepted at a mid-teir finance company or wait until your daughter has a full UK licence and then we'll be able to offer better rates. Thanks, Edwin

Question.

My Mum is disabled and we both thought that she was on the higher rate of mobility. We have recently discovered though that she is not on the higher rate as first believed. DLA now say is not entitled to the higher rate because she is over 65 even though her mobility decreased well before them. Because of this my mum said she would buy a car on finance so I can drive it for her which would help immensly however today the car dealer phoned to say that we cant get the car because my mother doesnt have a driving licence.

Question.

i have poor credit and a provisional licence, can you get me car finance

Posted by Samuel on

Answer.

Hi Katie, it may be worth applying in your name and your mum's to get approved for car finance as your mum has no licence. Have you got a clean credit record? Kind Regards, Edwin

Question.

Hi there, I got approved for finance on a £17000 car however, I only hold a provisional licence. My husband has a licence but has a trust deed so would not get accepted for finance. Is there any way i can add him to the application even though he has bad credit as I'm already accepted?

Question.

Hello, My wife is a Part time student and has a full driving licence. I work full time and have no licence. Would I be able to get car credit for my wife?

Posted by Glen on

Question.

Hi, my husband has currently got car finance and we have a year left to pay on current car but we are desperate for new car and to get out of this horrible finance agreement! He had his licence revoked and is currently on a provisional and I am the main driver but I have a full driving license. However, i'm only in part time work and get paid by cheque so it's very hard to prove my income. Can you help?

Posted by Casey on

Question.

Hi there, I have virtually no credit rating but my partners is good. I have a licence and he doesn't. I am employed full time as a civil servant, can prove income etc, he doesn't work and is on incapacity benefit. Is there any way around applying for finance as we badly need a new family car? Thanks in advance.

Posted by Susan Malloy on

Question.

I am due to take my test in the next couple of days and really want a car but have no deposit. Plus i would want the car ASAP - is this possible?! I have a credit card and a contract phone and all payments are always made on time. I probably only want to pay about £180 to £200 a month!

Posted by Kate on

Answer.

Hi Ann, sincere apologies for the delayed response. I'd advise you to get a personal loan as we won't be able to help you if you don't have a driving licence. Also if we could get your husband approved we couldn't get him anywhere near the £17,000 amount and the interest rate will be a great deal higher than what you have currently been offered. Kind Regards, Edwin

Posted by on

Answer.

Hi Glen, again apologies for the delayed response. Does your wife have good credit? If so, we'll be able to get her car finance even though she is a part time student as she won't have to prove her income. As you don't have a licence unfortunately we won't be able to help you. Kind Regards, Edwin

Posted by on

Answer.

Hi Casey, how is your credit history? If it's good then we don't need to worry about proving your income as the lender you get approved with won't ask for it. How much are you looking to borrow? We do have one lender where we could potentially get your husband approved with a provisional licence but the interest rates are quite high with that particular lender. Lastly, have you ever missed any payments on your current car finance agreement and are you on the electoral roll? If we get you approved we'd be able to take your current vehicle in part exchange and settle the existing finance. Actually - what is your car worth and how much do you have left to pay on the agreement? Kind Regard, Edwin

Posted by on

Answer.

Hi Susan, do you have any credit at all? A contract mobile phone perhaps or any credit / store cards? As you husband doesn't have a licence we won't be able to get him passed for car finance with our lending panel. However, he could act as a joint hirer on the application to back you up. If this isn't possible we can still hopefully get you approved as you have a job and can prove your income. I look forward to receiving your application. Regards, Edwin

Posted by on

Answer.

Hi Kate, we'd be able to get you a better rate of finance once you have passed your driving test as we only have one lender that approves individuals with provisional licences. As you seem to have a good credit score it'd be silly to limit you to the one lender. Please apply once you've passed your test and we'll have you in a new car in no time at all and to fit your budget. Kind Regards, Edwin

Question.

Hi, me and my wife are trying to get finance for a car. I am employed but have no license. However, she doesn't work but does have a license. Can I finance and get a car for her?

Posted by Wayne on

Answer.

Hi Wayne, as you have no licence your wife would have to apply for finance herself. You could potentially act as a guarantor however, if your wife has a good credit history this won't be required. If your wife does have good credit we'll be able to get her finance without her having to prove any income. Is this the case? Regards, Edwin

Question.

Hi, I have a poor credit history and have been refused finance. My wife has a good credit rating although she hasn't got a licence. Is it possible for us to get finance in my wife's name? We're both in full time employment. Thanks

Posted by Stephen Hanney on

Answer.

Hi Stephen, a good question but as your wife has no licence we couldn't do the finance in her own name unfortunately as all lenders that we deal with need to see proof of the main hirers driving licence. However, to give yourself a better chance of being approved your wife could well act as a guarantor on your application. If that option proves to be unsuccessful has your wife tried applying from her bank for a personal loan? I hope that helps. Kind Regards, Edwin.

Question.

Hi there, my Dad was trying to finance a car for me but it fell through because he lives abroad and wasn't in the country enough. I am a full time student at university. Could I try and get the finance in my name and have my Dad as my guarantor? Or would that fall through again because he's abroad? He would just transfer the amount into my account every month so he'd be paying. I'm only 19 and don't know if I bad credit or not, but I have missed a credit card payment once - oops! I'd love some advice, thank you!

Posted by Chloe on

Question.

Hi, i was wondering if you could help? I have bad credit but a full driving licence, but i was wondering if my sister would be able to get the finance for me to drive the car but she has no driving licence at all and no job. Is there any way of being able to get finance at all like that?

Posted by Scott on

Answer.

Hi Chloe, apologies for the delayed response. We'll try and get you approved by yourself first and then add your father as a guarantor if need be. Does your father have a UK drivers licence and does he have any credit registered in the UK? Example - mortgage, loans, credit cards etc? Are you in any kind of employment? If not, we may still be able to get you approved with one of our prime lenders as long as your credit history isn't bad. If it is we may have to place the finance in your Dad's name solely as all the other lenders need to see proof of self employment. Do you have a cash deposit and how much are you looking to finance? Lastly, are you (and your Dad) on the electoral roll at your current addresses in the UK? Regards, Edwin

Posted by on

Answer.

Hi Scott, unfortunately we wouldn't be able to place the finance in your sisters name as she has no drivers licence. We could help you out in obtaining you finance which will give you the opportunity to repair your credit though.

Question.

Hi Edwin, thanks for replying. The thing is my Dad wanted to buy me a car but didn't have enough cash so wanted to do it on finace but he got rejected so now he wants to just transfer the money into my account every month so he is paying it all. I have no cash deposit therefore as it was a present and the car was just under £10,000. Yes, he has three properties in England and one with a mortgage and he has an English bank account - however I'm not sure whether he is on the electoral role, to be honest I doubt as all his properties are rented. Yep, he has both an English and American driving license - I mean he supplied all the information for the finance to be rejected just because he wasn't in the country for 6 months out of a year!

Posted by Chloe on

Answer.

Hi Chloe, where did you try and get your Dad approved for finance? I doubt it we'll be able to get you £10,000 finance but we should be able to get a vehicle financed in your Dad's name for you. Edwin

Question.

Hi, could I get finance if I have previously been disqualified from driving 2 years ago but now obtain a full driving licence? Thanks

Posted by Ashley on

Answer.

Hi Ashley, as long as you now have a full UK licence and we can get you approved for credit then yes we'll be able to get you a car loan arranged.

Posted by on

Question.

Hi, I've got a car I like in mind but I only have a photocopy of my card licence and I don't have a copy of my paper part. Will the car finance company accept that or not?

Posted by Denise on

Answer.

Hi Denise, Yes - that won't be an issue as we can do a DVLA check to make sure you have a full licence so don't worry. Please apply. Regards, Edwin

Posted by on

Question.

Is there no way of getting a car on finance on a provisional licence? I'm currently doing my driving lessons and want to get a car on finance to give me that incentive if it's on my driveway. Plus i'd be able to learn to drive in it as my mum can be in the car with me having had her licence 21 years. I don't want to buy a cheap unreliable car and was just wondering if i could do it this way?

Posted by Vikki on

Answer.

Hi Vikki, unfortunately all lenders want to see that you have a full UK licence before providing car finance. I'm sorry but you'll have to wait until you have your licence unless you get a personal loan from your bank etc. Good luck with your lessons and i'm sure you'll have your test passed in no time. Regards, Edwin

Posted by on

Question.

Hi, how do you know someone has a licence? Is all information stored by the DVLA available to the underwriters?

Posted by Callum Johnston on

Answer.

Hi Callum, yes - we have access to DVLA data and for the deal to proceed we need to see a copy of your driving licence.

Question.

Hi, I was just wondering how me and my partner make a joint application for a car finance as she has the licence and I only have a provisional. It's solely for getting us to and from work but she has a poor credit rating. We are also living with her mum n dad. Does that create a problem or could you help us??

Posted by Luke Cross on

Answer.

Hi Luke, we'll try our best to get you approved. When making an application on our site you'll see at the bottom of stage 1 the option to make it a joint application. Follow this through step by step and provide me with the reference number once you have applied. Edwin

Question.

Hello Edwin, I have a bit of a complicated situation. I want to finance a car but have a bad credit score and wouldn't be accepted. But my partner, who I don't live with, has a really good credit rating and would go guarantor for me or even put it in her name only. The problem with that though is she goes to college and doesn't earn much so couldn't prove she could pay it back (even though I would be paying It anyway), but I earn £30,000 a year and could pay it easily. She also doesn't have a full uk licence - how could I get finance in this situation?

Posted by Stuart on

Answer.

Hi Stuart, as your partner doesn't have a full UK licence she could only act as a guarantor so please make a joint application (with her permission) and we'll try our best to get you approved. Edwin

Question.

There is a silly little things on it - council tax from 11 years ago, a catolgue from when i was 18! I don't have a set amount in mind its mainly the type of car i'd like, 3door Astra or a Peugeot 207! I have a peugeot 206 i'd be willing to put in but there is a log book loan on for around £1000 its 53 plate 3dr!

Posted by Lorraine on

Answer.

Thanks Lorraine, the logbook loan would obviously have to be cleared when part exchanging the car. How much is the car worth approximately? We'd love to help you out and i think we may have a good chance so please apply when you get 5 minutes. Kind Regards, Edwin

Question.

Hi, I have a provisional license and would be looking to take my test in the coming months but I want to get the car now as my fiancee's car has to be scrapped. With a provisional would I be able to get the finance? My Fiancee has really bad credit and I want the car in my name. Thanks

Posted by Matthew on

Answer.

Hi Matthew, yes we can get you approved with a provisional licence as long as you have some active clean credit and you are on the electoral roll at your current address. Is this the case?

Posted by on

Question.

I have not changed my address on driving licence, is this going to have negative impact on an immediate application?

Posted by Hamid on

Answer.

Hi Hamid, no - you can still apply as we can do a DVLA check. Kind Regards, Edwin

Question.

I recently applied for finance and i got credit approved but also i recently sent off my drivers license to change my address. However it takes 2-3 weeks to come back would this change my application for finance because of them not being able to see my license whilst the appliction went through? I'm just a bit worried because i really want the car! Thanks

Posted by Robii on

Answer.

Hi Robii, whoever you have been approved with will need to see a copy of your driving licence. If you don't have it they can do a DVLA check so you should be fine. Regards, Edwin

Question.

Good afternoon Edwin. Is it possible to apply for car finance on my husbands behalf? He is not on the electoral register whilst I am, but I do not have a driving licence? Thank you.

Posted by Julia on

Answer.

Hi Julia, we do have one lender who can help as long as you have a good credit history. Is this the case? Kind Regards, Edwin

Posted by on

Question.

Hi, I'm looking to buy a car. I've passed the finance check, all I need now is my license (both parts) or the card license and passport. The problem is I can't find my paper license or passport. I was just wondering if I use a guarantor do I still need to have both parts of my license?

Posted by Jordana on

Answer.

Hi Jordana, where have you been approved for car finance? We can certainly help you on your own (without a guarantor) if you just have your card part of your licence. We can just carry out a DVLA check to confirm this is the case. Why are they asking you for your passport? Do you have a UK passport or not? Kind Regards, Edwin

Posted by on

Question.

Does the finance have to be in the same address as my drivers licence or can I do it at a different address?

Posted by Stacy on

Answer.

Hi Stacy, your driving licence does need to be in the same address as the one you apply for finance in. Have you been approved with us or another company? Why do you ask this question? Also do you have good, fair or poor credit as we do have one lender that doesn't even need a driving licence for payout (you have to have very good credit though)? Kind Regards, Edwin

Question.

Hi i have really poor credit due to my past relationship but am slowly building it back up i have a contract phone now and full time work im due my driving test next mth and was wondering wld there be any chance of gaining credit for a car?

Posted by Sophy on

Answer.

Hi Sophy, Unfortunately at the moment there are only a small number of lenders who are willing to finance people with a provisional licence as they are seen as a higher risk. These companies also require you to have near on perfect credit thus not an option for you at the moment. If you have the option it may be worth putting a joint application through with a cosigner such as a parent who has a full licence. This opens the doors to many other finance companies who don't require you to have perfect credit. I hope this helps. Thanks, Edwin

Question.

My credit rating is through the floor and I have a clean, full UK licence, my partner is the opposite, he has excellent credit rating and wants to finance a car, he doesn't have a driving licence and no desire to drive. Car salesmen have advised us that my partner has to have a licence to get the finance in his name - why is this? Why can't he get a car on finance when he can afford it easily?Kind regards, Claire

Posted by Claire on

Answer.

Hi Claire. I would advise that you put a joint application through so we can have a look at both your credit profiles and assess what the best option would be for you. If your partners credit is as good as you say then we may be able to get him approved on his own (gaining better interest rates). You would be able to drive the vehicle however he would be 100% liable for the payments. I hope this helps. Edwin

Question.

Hi, I have a question and am wondering where we stand. Is it true my husband needs a full license to finance a car for us? They won't let me as I don't work and even as a joint claim its looking unlikely as he doesn't have the license - I do! We both have not the best credit rating. Is there a way to get the finance we need before he passes his test?

Posted by Victoria on

Answer.

Hi Victoria, we do have a few lenders who help people with no licences however as you both have average credit scores we won't be able to help on this occasion. As soon as he has passed his test he could apply with no problems. Edwin

Question.

I have a provisional and my boyfriend has a full UK driving licence. He's got a loan in his name for £20k which he's paying, can we apply for a car loan together? But we don't live at the same address! Our credit history is good though.

Posted by Nighat Parveen on

Answer.

Hi Nighat, you can indeed make a joint application for car finance even though you live at a different address than your boyfriend. We do have lenders that help people with provisional licences so please apply when you get a moment. As you say you both have good credit i'm confident we can help. Regards, Edwin

Question.

Hello, I have a full UK driving licence but I'm not employed as I'm a full time mother.

Would my mother be able to apply for finance for me? She's in full time employment but doesn't have a driving licence. Thanks

Posted by Kirsty Lloyd on

Answer.

Hi Kirsty, thank you for your question.

We could still potentially help you as we do have lenders that approve people who are out of work and on benefits. We can also approve housewives for car finance.

As the car is for you it'd be better in your name but there's nothing stopping you adding your Mum onto the application - this may strengthen your chances anyway so, if you have her permission please proceed in making an application. Once approved we provide a no obligation quote and you can buy a car from any dealer. Kind Regards, Edwin

Question.

Hi, My girlfriend has an average credit score and was refused a PCP, while i have an excellent credit score but only hold a provisional licence.

I was also refused credit, what would be the best option to get PCP finance?

Posted by Alan J on

Answer.

Hi Alan, thank you for your question.

We do have one lender on our panel who helps people with provisional licences and excellent credit get competitive PCP deals. If you are declined it may well be worth making a joint application for car finance though as we have many lenders that help people with average credit scores.

Hopefully we'll get you accepted on your own though. Please make an application and once approved you can choose a car from any dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Edwin

Question.

Hello, Can I get finance on a car with a provisional licence as I am very close to passing my test and thinking of getting a car before?

Posted by Jules blakemore on

Answer.

Hi Jules, thank you for your question.

We can indeed help people with provisional licences get approved for car finance. We can't guarantee an approval at this stage as a decision will be based mainly upon your credit history and income.

Please make an application when you're ready and if approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Edwin

Please make an application when you're ready and if approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Edwin
