What does being ‘provisionally approved’ for car finance mean?
October 18, 2011
Congratulations - you’ve been provisionally approved for car finance!
But now you’re probably wondering what that means.
A provisional approval – or approval in principle - doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed that we’ll be able to help but it’s a good start.
It means that, based on your application and a soft credit check, one of the lenders on our panel has indicated that they may be able to offer you car finance.
Once you’ve been approved in principle, there are a few different factors that can affect whether you’ll be eligible to secure finance or not. The lender will have their own criteria and will look at your individual circumstances, the vehicle you choose, and further documentation.
Don’t worry; your dedicated account manager will guide you through the process and let you know if any restrictions apply.
Will I be approved for car finance?
If you’ve found it tough to find car finance in the past, it’s understandable that you might be anxious about being approved.
But there’s no need to be nervous; once you’ve completed our online application form, we’ll look to find you the best deal from our panel of lenders and get you a decision in minutes! That way, you can get your finance sorted first and choose a car with confidence from any reputable dealership.
And if you’re looking for bad credit car finance, we could help! Here at CarFinance 247, we work with a panel of lenders so we can look to find finance approvals for people with a wide variety of different credit circumstances.

Hi, I would like to apply with you. But it requires i put three years worth of address history into the application. I have only lived in the UK for 18 months. I do have a fair credit history and do have a credit profile and one or two other things in my

Unfortunately, the lenders we work with ask that you have at least three years’ address history in the UK. This is needed so that lenders can determine how much of a risk it might be to lend to you. If you’ve lived in lots of different places in a short time, this could be cause for concern.
However, you don’t need to be a homeowner to apply for car finance with CarFinance 247. Our panel of lenders includes those who can help people who rent their own place, share with housemates, live in work accommodation, or are live with their family or partner.
You must be aged 18 or over to apply for car finance and most lenders will also ask you to supply proof of address, such as a recent utility bill, before issuing a loan.
I have lived in the UK for just over 2.5 years. I have permanent residency and I have been in my current job for 2 years and one month. I did not have a job in the UK previous to my current job. I have had my bank account for 2.5 years. I am an American c

Hi Nik, You don't necessarily need to be registered on the electoral roll in order to gain finance. However it can go a long way in helping obtain an approval as it shows the lenders you are traceable. It will also help if you re register any active credit to your current address. There may be something we can do to help you. With regards to your credit profile we will run a shallow credit search (to see which woulod be the best lender for you) which should show as an enquiry on your credit profile but this is the only way to see if we could gain you an approval. Kind regards,Rachel
