I've just passed my driving test but i'm unemployed. I have bad credit. Can i get car finance?

I just passed my driving test but I can't afford to buy a car. I've got a bad credit history & I'm not working.

I do get child tax credits and income support - would I be able to get a car on this?

Employment related questions

I am fully employed through an agency at the moment but this should be made permanent at the beginning of July. Would this go against my application?

Hi Justin, No - this wouldn't go against your application. As long as you can prove your income through payslips from the agency then you'd be eligible for car finance. Do you have a good, average or poor credit history? Regards, Rachel

I have worked for 2 agencies in the last 2 years in the automotive industry. Due to pay incentives i have moved to a better paid agency. Would this go against any application for finance for a car?

Hi Alex, as long as your son has a UK bank account and driving licence and can prove his income with payslips or bank statements then we should be able to get him finance.

I have heard that it is possible to buy a new car on a hire purchase in my wife's name and to be driven by me as a taxi with a deposit as low as £250 (admin fee). Once half the sum borrowed has been repaid i can then return the car to the finance company

Hi Derek, if your wife has good credit we can get her approved for car finance and all we'd need is her driving licence to fund the deal. What you have asked in your question is not what the finance companies want to hear but yes it is possible to hand your car back when you're 50% of the way through your agreement (it's called voluntary termination). However, to qualify you need to have made all your monthly payments on time each month. Regarding your last point i'm not sure whether this is possible to have 2 cars on finance.
