What is the minimum age to apply for car finance?

Hello Rachel, what is the minimum age to apply for car finance?
Asked by Geraldine Kennedy
January 21, 2012
Hi Geraldine, the age you have to be to apply for car finance can vary from lender to lender as they all have different criteria.

However, in the main most lenders can potentially help people that are 18 and over. How old are you and what is your credit history like? To get approved (if you are under 21) you'd have a greater chance if you added a co-hirer such as a parent.

Please make an application when you've considered your options and if approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Rachel

Age related questions

I am fully employed through an agency at the moment but this should be made permanent at the beginning of July. Would this go against my application?

Asked by Justin Hume
January 21, 2012

Hi Justin, No - this wouldn't go against your application. As long as you can prove your income through payslips from the agency then you'd be eligible for car finance. Do you have a good, average or poor credit history? Regards, Rachel

Hi, my son is has been employed by an agency for about 2 years. Would he be able to get finance for a car?

Asked by Alex
January 21, 2012

Hi Alex, as long as your son has a UK bank account and driving licence and can prove his income with payslips or bank statements then we should be able to get him finance.

It doesn't matter if he's an agency worker as the good news is that we have lenders on our panel that can help. Does your son have a good or bad credit rating / history? Please make an application and once approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Rachel

I have worked for 2 agencies in the last 2 years in the automotive industry. Due to pay incentives i have moved to a better paid agency. Would this go against any application for finance for a car?

Asked by Paul Griffin
January 21, 2012

Hi Paul, thanks for the question. We can help agency workers and as long as you have 3 months payslips we'll be able to get you car finance if approved. So, in answer to your question moving agency for more money won't effect your chances of being approved. Kind Regards, Rachel

I was wondering if I'm eligible to get an Audi a1 1.2 5 door car on finance? I'm 18 years old and live in the UK with a full UK licence.

Asked by Fayaz Hanif Gani
January 21, 2012

Hi Fayaz, thank you for your question.

Due to your age you may well struggle to secure finance for an Audi A1 without a co-hirer on the agreement. Would it be possible to add a parent to the agreement with their permission obviously?

The amount you'll be able to borrow will also depend upon your current credit history and income. Are you employed, can you prove your income and do you have any current clean credit history? All of this would aid our chances. A deposit would also help greatly.

Please carefully consider your options and make an application when you're ready and if approved you can choose a car from any reputable dealer and we also provide a no obligation quote. Kind Regards, Rachel

At CarFinance 247, the minimum age to apply for car finance is 18. However, we do work with lenders that are only able to provide finance for people over 21 or 22 or limit the amount that they those aged between 18 and 21 can borrow.

If you’re over 18 and ready to find car finance, you can get a quote to find out more with no impact on your credit score. Rates from 6.9% APR. Representative APR 24.9%.
