Can A 21 Year Old Get Car Finance?

Hi, I'm 21 but work abroad. I rent a house (shared) in the UK but i'm not on the electoral register, I earn a good wage but have it paid into a Dutch account, so my English account doesn't look too good because there is no funds going into it on a regular basis. I have a credit card and catalogue that are paid on-time each month and a mobile phone contract which gets paid but not always on-time. I'm wanting to finance a new car valued at around £14,000 and I have a deposit of £2,000. I have been refused finance already and do not have a guarantor. What are my chances of getting finance with your company? Also what APR will it be? Many thanks

Hi Stef, being on the electoral roll isn't a deciding factor - it does help but if you're not registered don't worry. We can indeed help 21 year olds get car finance.

Age related questions

I am fully employed through an agency at the moment but this should be made permanent at the beginning of July. Would this go against my application?

I have worked for 2 agencies in the last 2 years in the automotive industry. Due to pay incentives i have moved to a better paid agency. Would this go against any application for finance for a car?

Hi Alex, as long as your son has a UK bank account and driving licence and can prove his income with payslips or bank statements then we should be able to get him finance.

Due to your age you may well struggle to secure finance for an Audi A1 without a co-hirer on the agreement. Would it be possible to add a parent to the agreement with their permission obviously?

The amount you'll be able to borrow will also depend upon your current credit history and income. Are you employed, can you prove your income and do you have any current clean credit history? All of this would aid our chances. A deposit would also help greatly.

Hi Geraldine, the age you have to be to apply for car finance can vary from lender to lender as they all have different criteria.

However, in the main most lenders can potentially help people that are 18 and over. How old are you and what is your credit history like? To get approved (if you are under 21) you'd have a greater chance if you added a co-hirer such as a parent.
